What Are Period Pills?
Made of misoprostol or a combination of misoprostol with mifepristone, these medications are used to safely end a pregnancy and/or restore your monthly period. While period pills are made of the same medications that are used to end a pregnancy, they are safe to take whether you’re pregnant or not. This means you don’t have to take a pregnancy test or have a pregnancy confirmation before taking them.
If you’re considering period pills, you should know that this medication is not:
- Plan B (the morning-after pill)
- Emergency contraception
- Daily birth control
Your Missed Period Pills Appointment
There are currently two ways for you to get your missed period medication. We offer Telehealth appointments with our licensed providers and in-person visits at our Chicagoland clinic. When you’re ready, feel free to request an appointment that best suits your needs.
A Note for Out of State Patients
We can only provide period pill appointments and prescriptions to patients in Illinois. If you reside outside of Illinois, we welcome you to schedule an in-person appointment at our Chicagoland clinic.
Pro Tip: Whether you live in Illinois or are visiting from out of state, you may want to consider ordering advance provisions (stocking up) for future use.

After you fill out your intake form and provide all of the necessary information, you’ll need to provide your consent.
STEP 3
Make Your Payment
Most missed period pills aren’t covered by insurance. If this is true for you or you’re self-pay, make your payment here.
STEP 4
Receive Your Period Pills
We’ll review your intake form, consent, and payment. Then, we’ll ship your order. You can expect your pills in 1-4 days.
Cost and Coverage
Typically, missed period pills cost between $0 and $399. Most insurance companies do not cover period pills explicitly, but some may offer coverage to “restore menses.”

Getting Your Period Back
As you get ready to bring back your period, some discomfort is normal and expected. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to make the process as smooth as possible, and yourself as comfortable as possible.
Prepare
- Create a quiet, comfortable, and calming place to rest
- Stock up on water and your favorite snacks
- Place comfort objects or emotional support items nearby
- Have ibuprofen and/or a heating pad nearby
Support
- Invite a safe person to be with you during the process
- Ask a safe person to be on standby in case you need to talk
Breathe
- Mild cramping is normal and to be expected
- Missed period pills are safe and effective
- These medications are FDA-approved
- You’ve regained control of your body
- You’re getting your period back
